BBC pundit Chris Sutton has given his predictions for this weekend’s fixtures. He has Newcastle losing 3-1 to Manchester City on Sunday.
Here is his take on the game:
There will be a great atmosphere at St James’ Park and Newcastle could create a chance or two for Callum Wilson.
I only see a Manchester City win here, though. They haven’t really messed up so far.
Much has been made of Erling Haaland’s few touches against Bournemouth but he still made one count with his pass to Ilkay Gundogan for the opening goal.
If the opposition are going to focus on stopping Haaland, it will make room for his other attacking players, and we already know how dangerous they are.
Sutton is two for two so far in his Newcastle predictions. The betting odds are that it will be three to three. Newcastle lost by a combined 9-0 to the Citizens last year while Eddie Howe never had the upper hand against Pep Guardiola.
However, you never know in the Premier League. Newcastle are a different animal with a full pre-season under Howe, who are keen to test themselves against the best in the league.
Both clubs are yet to concede this season, with Sutton predicting the chain will be broken for both teams. Newcastle have found it very difficult to put the ball in the back of the net so far.
It was a different case at the back with the baseline and Nick Pope performing brilliantly in the first two weeks. This will have to continue for any hope of results. It’s unlikely, but anything is possible, especially in St. James’ Park.
