Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has been in a delicate position since his early days as the state’s top executive. As a somewhat environmentally conscious Republican, he must have been dancing around that much of his base thinks the demonstrable rise in global temperatures is a hoax. This was fully exposed at a recent press conference in Tampa, where he announced a series of climate change mitigation proposals while denouncing the use of words like “global warming”.

“We’re a low-lying state, we’re a storm-prone state, and we’re a flood-prone state,” DeSantis told the crowd. “And so we worked with the legislature to say, okay, how are we going to solve this problem in a way that protects communities in Florida, protects our economic livelihoods and makes sure we do what we need to do. To do.”

As a Republican, DeSantis opposes anything that might annoy a business owner or a C-Suite guy. Thus, his proposals in particular do little to rule the kind of extractive companies that have fueled the current crisis. He opposed journalists’ use of the term “global warming”, saying it was a Trojan horse for ideological concerns.

“What I found out is that when people start talking about things like global warming, they usually use that as an excuse to do a bunch of leftist things that they would like to do anyway. And so we don’t do leftist stuff, ”he said.

What DeSantis is ready to do is increase stormwater drainage and build dikes to deal with the problem as it currently exists. The projects are almost entirely focused on moving more efficiently the invading water that we already face. This first wave of projects is expected to cost $ 270 million.

The narrow framework created by the center-right bipartisan system in the United States means that left-wing solutions to the climate crisis are not even on the table, especially as DeSantis likes to look into communist and wind-producing wind turbines. ‘electricity.

Punitive taxation of polluters and companies that cause active damage is not exactly practiced in anarchist collectives. The only real solution to climate change is the end of our carbon-heavy, consumption-based economy as we know it. But you won’t even hear that from the people who are regularly edited into Joseph Stalin pictures by right-wing cranks and criticized in the DeSantis campaign merch.
