Colbert jokes New York must be an ‘anarchist jurisdiction’ if it produces Trump (video)

Every day is extremely eventful as we quickly approach the November presidential election, and it can seem almost impossible to keep up with it all. But at least we have late night shows to catch up with us. Like how “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” kicked off its episode Tuesday with a joke about Donald Trump declaring New York, Portland and Seattle as “anarchist jurisdictions.”

This is an attempt by the Trump administration to justify the withdrawal of federal subsidies to these cities. That’s no small amount of money for New York – about $ 7.5 billion a year, a big chunk of the annual budget. The designation will have no impact for at least 30 days, but the mayors of the three cities have pledged to sue the government for Trump and co. actually take action.

But, in the meantime, Colbert’s staff had a little sketch at the start of his show which joked about the absurdity of calling New York an anarchist – but then understood how Trump could have come to that conclusion.

You can watch the sketch below.

“New York City, an anarchist jurisdiction,” says the narrator.

“Of course, in reality, everything looks fine. But just use your imagination and a Netflix account, and suddenly ballet gangs are taking over the West Side. Giant gorillas roam the skyscrapers. Shameless prostitutes have orgasms in delicatessens. The demonic confections terrorize the city center.

These jokes refer, in order, to “West Side Story”, “King Kong”, “When Harry Met Sally” and “Ghostbusters”.

But that was not all. Colbert’s sketch had a pretty murderous punchline, featuring Donald Trump’s cameo in “Home Alone 2: Lost in New York”.

“And perhaps most frightening of all, New York is home to this idiot,” the narrator said in an image of Trump’s cameo.
