(vgl. http://papiere-fuer-alle.org/node/586)

BEWEGUNG KOMMT VON BEWEGEN !

BLEIBERECHT FÜR ALLE !

DER WIDERSTAND GEHT WEITER !

SEID SAND IM GETRIEBE DER ABSCHIEBEMASCHINERIE !

NO NATION – NO BORDER – FIGHT LAW AND ORDER !

Assorted Nr. 25, Wild Mix:

In no particular order…

*The good friends at Crimethinc have recently released a very interesting new text, definitely worth your time.

*In the land of the free, it is now apparently perfectly legal for the government to track your moves with GPS, without the permission of a court of any sort. When I first read the title, I thought it was the usual leftist exaggeration. You can now read about it on „Time“ magazines website, and the title is „The Government Can Use GPS to Track Your Moves.“ Scary.

*Speaking of scary, since the post-surgery bed rest period has converted me into something like the eye in the sky of the internet (in that I see *everything*), here is something that, while scary, you definitely need to see:

Your band is terrible, and thats certainly OK. But….recording it and putting it on Youtube??!!

*Surgery: Was this week. I survived. Now I have three screws in my big toe, putting the total in the right foot/ankle at 21! And maybe Im getting really desperate in the search for a silver lining here, but this „extra“ surgery means that the next, and final, surgery to remove the metal workshop from my ankle will be Lucky Number 7! (As in, 7th surgery).

*In the „kind of interesting, kind of bizarre“ category, here is the indoor football team of the Russian Communist Party, currently in second division. There is of course a long tradition of parties and popular organizations having their own sporting teams, but notice the brand that clothes them and some of the sponsors! I know that the Russian CP is about as reactionary as can be, but still…Id kill for that jersey.

Russiand friends: whoever can get us that jersey gets a shopping spree at Fire and Flames!

On the other hand, ugliest jersey ever, from a French Rugby team. Immediate eye cancer….

*Just discovered „Saga,“ Swedish Nazi rock with a less frightening image. Aside from a whole slew of „ballads“ about race, nation, ancestry, and so forth there is even a three album „Tribute to Skrewdriver.“ Basically Skrewdriver goes female fronted soft rock. Here is „European Dream,“ enjoy…

The question one might ask is, how do the good people at Fire and Flames stumble on to such Nazi garbage? Simple, the video is prominently placed on the *personal* Myspace page of ex-Tolbiac Toads guitarist. For those who may not know, Tolbiac Toads was *the* fascist skinhead band in France in late 80s and early 90s. We were reminded of the Tolbiac Toads because of this picture on Oire Szene:

Yes, it is Sebi from Stomper 98 again. But dont worry, without even knowing the answer we can tell you the very logical explanation….“I just like it for the music,“ and „somebody came by, put the shirt on me real fast and took this picture without me realizing. It could happen to anyone…“

*Even though Sizzla cancelled, the reasons given by the festival organizers and their dealing with the issue were less than ideal, so we wanted to still promote the following kündgebung. A little late, sorry…

*Next week, two Fire and Flames tables…some of us will be in Oberhausen at the Libertäre Medienmesse, and others will be at Schanzenfest. Be there (and in Dortmund!) and come visit!

*Tonight…20:30, Atlanta vs Flandria. You are all very excited, I know…

POLITICAL SPORT:
SOCCER WITH A DIFFERENCE:

There's the World Cup and then there's the 'Homeless World Cup'. The latter is soccer played by homeless people, street soccer if you will, and it has its own events designed to draw world attention to the plight of the homeless. This year the Homeless World Cup will be held in Rio De Janiero Brazil from Sept. 19 to 26. this alternative world Cup is sponsored by numerous organization worldwide, including the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE). The following announcement of a fundraiser on September 1 out in Vancouver comes from CUPE.

Team Canada is holding a fundraiser on Wednesday, September 1 from 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. at Doolins Pub at Granville and Nelson in Vancouver. Tickets are $15 and include a burger and a beer. The event will feature special guests, a silent auction and live entertainment.

This is a benefit and send-off for Street Soccer Team Canada which is going to Rio De Janiero, Brazil on September 15 to represent us in the 64-nation Homeless World Cup. Players have recently been homeless, are homeless, or are at risk for homelessness.

Most of Team Canada’s players were originally recruited from shelters run by the Portland Hotel Society Community Services Society (PHS).

CUPE 15 and CUPE 1004 members work for both PHS and the Carnegie Community Centre and both locals are supporting the team financially and as volunteers.

Providence Anarchist Bookfair

Are there any songs about Providence? There should be!

Tabling for AK is always an adventure! I had the distinct pleasure of traveling up to Rhode Island this past weekend to table at the 5th Annual Providence Anarchist Bookfair. I’m not gonna lie, I was not a happy camper when Spencer (an awesome tabling helper!) and I rolled into Providence at about 11pm on Friday night after a ten hour drive through heavy traffic and construction. It was uphill from there, as our gracious host/bookfair organizer, Mark, offered us some delicious white peaches to stave off the malnutrition we had developed on the drive. I’m staring off wistfully thinking about them right now…

In my grand bookfair tabling style, I stayed up way too late hanging out with our hosts, taking a walk to the check out the amazing local community garden, and getting a taste of Providence night life. It would have been downright improper to get a good night’s sleep before tabling. Heavens!

FOO FEST is an outdoor street festival with bands, beer, food, cheap-ass coffee (my personal favorite. My eyes were permanently glued open all day due to over-caffeination) and, of course, a book fair right in the thick of it. It’s always a pleasure to hang out with other tabling friends, like folks from the Wooden Shoe, Lucy Parsons Center, PM Press, the Justseeds Artists’ Cooperative, and new friends from the Providence IWW and NEFAC. Old friends were seen, new friends were made, and plenty of books were sold. The tabling wound down around 8pm so we packed up and enjoyed the festival for a bit, then took our tired asses back to home base.

I am still tired, and somewhat regretful that we didn’t stay long enough to go to the beach on Sunday. If you haven’t had a chance to go to the Providence Anarchist Bookfair you are missing out. Thanks to Gray and Mark for making this happen! I can’t wait to go again next year.

Look for me on the Community and Resistance tour!

In September, I'll be joining the Community and Resistance tour with Jordan Flaherty, Jesse Muhammad and others!

Call for Papers: North American Anarchist Studies Association

CALL FOR PAPERS!!!
North American Anarchist Studies Network Conference

Toronto, Canada
January 15-16, 2011
Deadline for Proposals: November 1, 2010

The North American Anarchist Studies Network is currently seeking presentations for our second annual conference to be held at the Steel Worker’s Hall in Toronto, Canada. We are seeking submissions from radical academics, independent researchers, community activists, street philosophers and students. We invite those engaged in intellectual work within existing institutions, such as universities, but also those engaged in the production of knowledge beyond institutional walls to share their ongoing work. From the library stacks to the streets, we encourage all those interested in the study of anarchism to submit a proposal.

In keeping with the open and fluid spirit of anarchism, we will not be calling for any specific topics of discussion, but rather are encouraging participants to present on a broad and diverse number of themes- from the historical to the contemporary to the utopian. For inspiration, we have included a number of suggested themes that have been of interest us; we invite you to suggest and submit your own topics, papers, themes, panels and workshops:

  • Theorizing Anarchism: Perspectives on Anarchist Studies
  • Greening Anarchy: Anarchism and the Environment
  • Bridging the Marxist/Anarchist Divide: Is Black and Red Dead?
  • Race, Class & Solidarity: Migration Politics
  • Indigenous Rights and Politics in (Occupied) North America
  • Expanding the Anarchist Canon: Non-Western Anarchism(s)
  • The South American ‘New Left’ and Anarchism
  • ‘Queering’ Anarchy: Anarchism and LGBTQ Issues
  • ‘Revolution’ in the 21st Century:  The Meaning of Social Change Today
  • Militant Research: Connecting Activism and Academia
  • Practicing Anarchy: Organization, Insurrection and Anarchist Social Movements
  • Envisioning Alternatives: Anarchist Utopias
  • Anarchism and Radical (Dis)ability Politics
  • The Greek ‘Crisis’ and Anarchist Responses
  • Post-G20 Toronto: Learning from Toronto’s G20 Mobilizations
  • Anarchist Cultural Perspectives and Practices
  • The Post-Anarchist Challenge?
  • Anarchists and Academia: The Perils, Pitfalls and Potentialities of the University

It is our sincere hope that this conference will, to the greatest extent possible, accurately represent the diversity of North American anarchist politics and thought; to that end, we encourage submission(s) in English, French, Spanish and in any other language or on any other topic you feel relevant to this experience and this community.

Send your proposal, including a short abstract, a working title and three keywords that describe your project to the Toronto NAASN Crew at naasntoronto@gmail.com.

For more information on the North America Anarchist Studies Network check out our website at www.naasn.org.

We look forward to hearing from you, organizing with you and, of course, learning from you!
